|Welcome to AngloGold Ashanti's Mponeng Mine|
|Support services: a miner performing maintenance on a pipeline in one of the haulages|
Going back to our previous mention of stopes, at Mponeng, gold is obtained by blasting and removing gold-bearing rock from the stope area. Before the miners can blast, however, timber or other props are used to support the roof of the stope known as the hanging wall.
Pictured here: a miner performing maintenance on a haulage pipeline to allow access to stopes for mining.
